All great teams have great lines
Fort Worth, Texas—With just another brilliant performance, the question now becomes not how, but how many will the Lion A-Team win by. Players ranging from age 11-13, seem tohave an edge on the other levels when it comes to focus and coachability. The Lions coaching staff has their players attention from start to finish and seem to be able to grasp advanced concepts preparing them for competition at the next level.

Running backs like Jackson benefit from good offensive lines. One good block goes a long way

Th right block- and off to the races
The Lions are on course to exceed many expectations. By posting an undefeated record thus far, inspite of being the reigning champs, the hunted relish in their role as the hunted. Taking the field againist the Chaparrals the Lions approached the game as if they were the underdog. the full effect was summed up with the final score of 34-8 truncing of the Forrest Hill A-Team.

Nothing like good defense
As with most good teams success starts with offensive and defensive line play. What follows is a photographic focus honoring the guys who get it done without a lot of hype- The offensive line.

Being prepared is key

Coach K(Kelton Russell) and others make sure the linemen know their assignments

The bigger the cmpetition- the better!

Technique and knowing your assignment makes good a lineman

They don't get a lot of glory- But a lot of pride goes in to what they do!.

Woolen- big part of B-Team's game
A season filled with disappointment, The Como Lion B-Team pulled together and won a decisive victory againist the Forrest Hill Chaparral 38-8. Although both teams are on a collision course to see which finishes last at the botton of the standings, the Lions took advantage of the Chaparrals weak defense and dissected it all afternoon.

Lions B-Team defense spent much of afternoon watching offense
QB Tariq Woolen ran for four of the Lion touchdowns with a couple over 90 yards. This day the B-Team pulled out their full arsenal. They even used the a 3-man QB system to perfection. But the brunt of the Lion attack was massive dosages of Tariq Woolen – over, and over, and over!

Lions Quincy runs for tough yardage
Fort Worth, Texas—With the playoffs just a few weeks away, seems the Como Lion C-Team is making a push to be included in that group. With a sound game plan of pounding the rock and making key defensive stops the C-Team dominated the Forrest Hill Chaparral by a score of 18-8.

Things started off a little shakey for the Lions as the Chaparrals scored first with a fierce running attack. For a moment the Lions were on their heals before figuring out the Chaps. Once the Lions defense settled the Lions found their running game.

Lion dodges ChaparralBig hits meant lots of medical attention
The afternoon contest included lots of hard hits, with both teams dishing out punishment. At this rate, if all the ball teams start performing like this, the league may need to negoiate a television contract bringing this league into home around the metroplex.

Como flag team lose tough one on the road
Fort Worth, Texas—-All season Como has been trying to put together an undefeated day. Yet they seem to come up short where it’s most unexpected. The flag team recorded it’s first defeat after posting an undefeated record, with the exception of a tie, fell victim to the Forrest Hill Chaparrals 16-14.

Flag team depended on run early on

Lion runs for short gainer
Todays game not only involved a tough, stingy, defensive-minded Chaparral, but the Lions also had to deal with deplorable field conditions. Similar to last week, the Lions and Chaps played on a field that was soaked from earlier rains during the preceeding week.

Forrest Hill proved they had good runners also

Lion player makes tough grabLion player turns corner for long gain
Once the teams got a little dirty-it was on! With the footing difficult for the young footballers to manuever, it seemd a tackle game broke out without the pads. It even apperared the muddy conditions made it bit more compertitive.

Lions QB dances down sideline

Flag team unable to make one last score
All in all it seemed to do what both organizations wanted for both teams- to know what its like to play in less than ideal football conditions. As long as each team had to play under the same circumstance, the crowd watched their little boys take another long step toward manhood.

Lions score as Como fans look on
Fort Worth, Texas—Playing like a well-oiled machine, the Como Lions A-Team continues to fine-tune their offense and defense in what they hope will conclude the regular season with an apperance in this years Super Bowl. With an undefeated record on the line the Lions welcomed the Mustangs from Arlington into their home field at Western Hills high school.

Lion makes move in mud

Lions use ground to off set field conditions

Lions found sure footing in muddy conditons

Lion player gets TD sign from fan
In the end the Lions proved to be the better team with just too many weapons while the Mustangs relied on the hard-hitting and clever running of their best player( who incidently may have been the best player on the field), Javontea “Juice” Adams.

Mustang cheerleaders pushed their squad when down

Mustangs "Juice' keep the Lion defense occupied

Lions Jackson escapes the grasp of Mustang player

The combination of pass and running proved to be too much as the Mustangs couldn’t answer all the weapons the Lions fired. The Mustangs had one final shot with a downfield play that was nearly intercepted. Afterwards Como got the ball and ran the clock out. Final score Lions 20- Mustangs 12.

Como's swarming defense corrals Mustang player
Fort Worth, Texas—Maybe the most exciting game of the day, the B-team took it’s best shot at a well prepared Mustang team from Arlington. Conditions were pretty horrible by the time the B-Team took the field at Western Hills high school. Two games were played prior so there were pools and puddles everywhere. Both teams pounded the rock which produced some great defensive play. Between the running and hitting the fans were treated to an exciting finish.

Lions ran well in muddy conditions

Aggressive play by Lions on defense

Both teams played so hard-a shame one had to lose
Defensive battles such as this also produced a alot of big hits and the associated injuries. In the end the B-Team was a touchdown away from getting their second victory of the year.

Through muck and mire-Lions hash out a dominant win
Fort Worth, Texas—By the time the Como C-Team hit the field, it was good and muddy! The rain maintained it’s distance but the wet conditions, from earlier rains, made excellent atmosphere for some real football.

C-team QB eyes Arlington Mustangs defense

C-team ground attack got it done

C-team runningbacks did plenty damage on the ground

Lions proved agile in mud

Good blocking played big role for Lion running game
Maybe a little adversity, like the rain and mud, brought out something special in the C-Teamers. For the first time this year the C-Team dominated with a complete performance from beginning to end. Hopefully the weather conditions will continue and we can see that same type of dominance for the remainder of the season.

C-teams defense played major role in victory

Lions and coaches sport new uniforms as they remain undefeated
Fort Worth, Texas—Along with being homecoming it was also photo day. The Lions and their coaches performed in new home color uniforms. Fortunately the Everman Bulldogs agenda was to spoil not only the homecoming but dirty the Lions uniforms in the process. In a game where rain was intermittent, the desire of both teams gave the crowd their moneys worth. The Lions showed character and guts with a 14-12 victory.

Two of the better teams in the A-team division both teams seemed equally matched. As a result the crowd watched a well-played contest which only one team could be the victor.

This time the Lions got the best of the Bulldogs. This makes for a hopeful rematch in the playoffs at the end of the season. I’m sure the mighty Lions are looking forward to it.

Rains put an end to brisk concessions about halftime of the B-Team game
Fort Worth, Texas—Some might say it was more of the same for this years B-Team. One things for sure, when it comes to performances(except for one), they give maximum effort. Saturday was no exception as the Lion B-Team fell short againist the Everman Bulldogs- 18-12.

Stopping Everman running game was difficult task

No lack of effort in Lions defense

The Mighty Lions from Lake Como,Texas have again brought home football jewelry. The Lions qualified two teams in this years Super Bowl tournament; the A and B-teams. The photos that follow can only briefly describe the action in the first game in which the B-team, coached by Tenefere Jackson and Cedrci Bryant, won a close hard fought contest which resulted in Como coming out victorious 20-14.
Como A-Team Photo’s
A touchdown late in the fourth quarter by dependable and verssatile two-way player Tenefere Jackson jr sealed the deal that rendered the Lions their first of two trophys for the day.
The A-team coached by Kelton Russell and Derrick “De-Lite” Lightner ran an efficient high powered running attack led by Kerrick Burlerson. From the first play of the game it was obvious the coaches had the team focused as Burleson broke-off runs long runs that put the game in doubt for the Southside Hornets. The Hornets fought back and made the score decent but in the end the Lions stiffened on defense and fed Burleson the rock. The result was a 36-24 victory.

This year the A and B-teams will compete Nov. 22nd at 1 and 3 pm at UTA stadium in Arlington, Texas. Coaches and players are looking for a big turnout from the community. So everyone is urged to attend and support the teams.

For those not in the know, Como’s A & B- Football teams were crowned this years football champs. Thanks to the super efforts of coaches and Como Center staff, and the many donations from friends and neighbors around the city of Ft.Worth, for always making sure the kids not only have uniforms and sports equipment, but for making sure the kids are fed after laying it all on the line for their hood.

After taking home two of the afternoon top awards the athletes were treating to an all-you-can-eat at a local pizza palace on Camp Bowie. Closing out a sucessful football season family members and friends were invited to scarf-out with the team whom they ‘ve cheered for and prayed for all season.

Many on the teams consider their support instrumental in this and previous years success.

San Antonio, Texas—–Some had been here before but for many state qualifyers running for the Como Lions track team labeled in honor of it’s first leader Commadore Timmons, it was a new and exciting experience.Ccoach Jerome(G-dog) Woolen’s mesh of experienced and novice athletes may not have brought home the usual expectation of medals but did inspire his contingency to work toward that end at next years state meet in Waco,Texas.

When measured by past medal feats at state this years medal take is meagar. However the Como spirit provided encouragement to their cross-town rival Martin Luther King Center in Stop Six. The Stop Six boys dlivered medals in many of the sprint categories which included gold in 100m and 4 X 100m events. Of course the value of competing against the best Texas can only be measured by future competition next season. What follows are photographic high’s and low’s from this years effort.

Coming off what many term a successful season, winning top honors as Super Bowl champs in the A & B divisions, the Como Lions may find repeating those same results difficult to achieve. Losing three of their first four to the Hallmark Falcons may be an indicator of how tough it is for champions to repeat.

The Lions did find comfort in their A-team who by most accounts looked very impressive. After a few offensive miscues the Lios got rolling and managed a alead at halftime againist the Falcon A-team. After halftime the Lions came out focused on offense and aggressive on defense. The result=22-6.

Fort Worth, Texas—-With 7 games to go the Como Lions A-team, composed of mainly11-12 year olds, are primed for a possible undefeated season. With each game, according to many long time fans, they keep getting better and better. Todays 48-0 score indicates this one was over with by halftime.

Much of the Lions early success can be attributed to A-team head coach “Dee-Light’ Lightner. Lightner practices are with purpose and direction. Each player has matured through the previous years as players aspire with a visions of playing at this high level of community competition that prepares for the more disciplined and legendary competition of Texas high school.

Achieving greatness in sports requires time and practice. It also means starting a child out in a sport earlier and younger. The Lion D-Team, coached by Kelvin Kennedy, are providing the early guidance for youth in Lake Como who are exploring their athletic roots.

Unfortunately “Damoonman” was a bit tardy in getting to the 14-0 victory over Eastside community team from the Poly area of Ft.Worth. What follows is a photographic expression following the final whistle in their win.

The Como Lions C-Team mde good use of this weekends home field advantage to get a victory and set the season on a course that will hopefully land them in the playoffs. Not sure of the final score but the victory was decisive.

From kickoff the C-Team Lions were aggressivie on offensive and focused on defense. Head Coach Lou Washington and offensive coordinator Andrew Robinson had the lions well prepared as they displayed the type of talent that could position them in a playoff slot later this season.

Tough going so to say the least for this seasons Lions B-Team. Traditionally stocked with a stellar of talent which graduates those same players to the senior division at the top shelf level-Como’s A-team, seems the competition has the same designs for it’s players.

This Saturday afternoon the Eastside Center from Poly took it to Como- and often. It seemed before Como could catch its collective breath, Poly was recovering the football and dancing across the Como goal line for another score. Yet the score doesn’t reflect how hard-hitting a game this was. Of course hard hits can result in injuries and the B-Tem suffered and distributed a few.

Veteran Lion coaches T. Jackson and Cedric Bryant are pulling out all the stops and show no signs of give up. Even after a 27-0 defeat and a bit of help from the refs, Jackson and Bryant continue to find ways to motivate and teach while showing their players where progress in being made.

Fort Worth, Texas—Though the best laid plans of mice and men, the much anticipated Lake Como football homecoming started off with sunny bright skies. The weather forecast indicated later that evening expect light showers in the area. For once the weather forecast was as correct as can be remembered. Still the faithful few(you know who you are) along with many other anxious parents and friends poured into Country Day High School football stadium where homecoming festivities were held.
The first two teams managed their games without any weather related incidents. Deep into the 2nd half of the B-Team game the weather made it’s appearance felt for the remainder of the evening. Though the D-Team, the entry level into the community leagues, is setup for flag football there are many times when it looked like they were playing tackle without the pads. The Lions made a dramatic comeback down 12-8 in the fourth quarter and closed out the game with a 14-14 tie.
In the next few years these same D-Team players will hopefully become A-team players. What follows is a photo essay of the D-Team on ofense and defense.

Coach Lou fires up his players for homcoming victory
For Worth, Texas—For the C-Team, who have had their struggles this season, it was quite redeeming to pick up one of their few victories in front of the packed homecoming crowd at Counry Day High School.

Smart running made for much improved ground attack. C-Team defense wasn't having any long gainers

Good blocking helped the c-Team cruise on the ground

Nothing like getting the crowd into it
For Coach Lou it was acomplete team effort in their 24-12 win. The C-team was focused on both ends of the ball. Offensively they attacked the Everman squad and with the same intensity they surrounded the bulldogs on defense.

Another good solo tackle!

C-team player hits the hole for nice gain
